Who are Siemens Medical Solutions?

Siemens Medical Solutions brings together innovative medical technology, information technology, management consulting, and services to help customers achieve tangible, sustainable clinical and financial outcomes.

Simply - We see a way to increase efficiency in healthcare

Every day, in every hospital across the UK, medical staff are assisted in their vital life-saving work by the latest, most innovative Siemens technology and services. From IT solutions and management services to leading edge diagnostic imaging and critical care facilities; from picture archiving and electronic patient record systems to power, environmental control and lighting systems that help to maintain a pristine healthcare environment. With Siemens the latest groundbreaking technologies become affordable realities, helping medical professionals to advance the quality of healthcare by detecting illnesses earlier and more accurately, and minimising the stress and discomfort of patients' treatment. Siemens systems are designed to intelligently pre-empt users' requirements and offer a unique standard platform, Syngo, throughout the diverse product range.

Siemens Medical Solutions leads the field in providing diagnostic, therapeutic and critical care products and systems for the NHS and Private sector. The special investment programmes under the New Opportunities Fund and other Government initiatives in targeting Cancer, Cardiac disease and more recently Stroke have led to a substantial increase in business activity. New technologies have enhanced the potential to gain additional clinical information, visualise organs in new ways, and treat disease more effectively.

In Cardiac Imaging, for example, using ground breaking Multislice CT, like the Sensation 64, one can uniquely discriminate between calcification and soft plaque in the arteries where there is a blockage without the hazard of placing a catheter in the artery. New high performance Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners, such as the Magnetom Avanto and Trio, which work without radiation, have the potential for Cardiac screening of 'at risk' categories of the population, to enable treatment to be proactive. Siemens is researching this area in collaboration with UK hospitals. MRI is also used for Stroke Imaging and vascular diagnosis, where real time imaging and processing ensure that treatment to conserve brain tissue is given promptly. With the cost of stroke to the NHS estimated to be over £2.3bn and rising at 30% over the next two decades, clinical management is a key area for improvement.

The introduction of new concepts in Molecular Imaging combining PET and CT scanners, such as the Siemens Biograph, where one images anatomy and function simultaneously is considered to provide a breakthrough in Cancer imaging. Similarly TruePoint SPECT'CT using Gamma Cameras has potential. New computer enhanced techniques for Cancer treatment at specialised centres like Newcastle and Cambridge significantly improved higher throughput and efficiency. Combined therapy treatment and high resolution imaging of the Primatom system brings new accuracy.
