President’s Welcome
A Message from Our Club President
Our club was established in 1997, with the union of the former St Mary's Hospital R.F.C. founded in 1865 and Charing Cross/Westminster Hospitals R.F.C. founded in 1984. We are a friendly and successful club with membership of undergraduate medical students, qualified doctors and others associated with Imperial College. We have male and female teams playing Wednesday and Saturday fixtures.
Our student teams play in the British Universities Premiership South League and our Saturday side plays in RFU National League London 3 (North West). We are also the current holders of the United Hospitals Cup, the oldest rugby competition in the world. We have won it 7 out of the last 8 years.Our home ground is the former St Mary's ground at Teddington, which boasts 3 superb pitches which are used for home matches by England Universities Teams.
We are proud to have been sponsored for many years by Siemens Medical, who generously sponsor us to provide both kit and coaching. Our teams are coached by Kevan Bell, (Irish Exiles and former Richmond Coach) and Keith Green (present manager of English Universities teams), both of whom are extremely highly qualified R.F.U. coaches.Our club ethos is to provide a happy home for our students, both male and female, and we are pleased to welcome non-playing supporters, especially parents and families.
Through the tremendous financial and personal support of former players, hospital consultants and G.P.s in the West London area, we are financially sound and are able to offer our unique Cockburn Rugby Scholarships for leadership and commitment in Imperial College School of Medicine, established in 2002. We are now looking forward to another exciting and successful season and welcome all our 'freshers' this year to join and fully embrace our unique club.
To all our new members and supporters this season, we welcome you to our club. You will find a vibrant and enthusiastic community with whom I hope you will spend many happy years of association. To all our opponents, we wish you a sincere welcome to our club, and look forward to a hard, fair contest and an enjoyable post-match experience.
